Highlights

vranjaca cave and sinj Itinerary

Join us and prepare yourself for a very unique experience. Departure is in front of your hotel/apartment where you will be picked up by our experienced English-speaking guide/driver.

The Vranjaca cave is situated only 24 km from Split, in the heart of Dalmatian hinterland, in the village Kotlenica.  You will be welcomed by Mr. Punda, who is the grandson of Stipe Punda, who discovered the cave in 1903.

The cave is 65 meters deep and separated into more champers, in the upper part evidence has been found that people were living there several thousand years ago. A small natural passage leads through 9 parts of the cave that are full of decoration in all shapes and sizes. The cave is about 65-70 million years old and it was created by an underground river. Today parts of the river Jadro are running about 10 meters below the lower parts of the cave. A specific feature of the Vranjaca cave is that the interior maintains a constant year-round temperature of about 15⁰C. Set your imagination free and you will see stalactite and stalagmites formations, looking like people, animals, or buildings.

We continue to Sinj- a town settled in the heart of Dalmatia hinterland.  Here we will learn about the famous Alka game,  the annual knights’ tournament which takes place every August. It is a legacy of the commemoration of the famous victory over the vastly superior Ottoman forces in 1715 and is one of the more colorful and individual cultural events in Europe.

If you want to learn more about Alka we suggest a visit to Alka Museum in Sinj – the museum exhibit includes a variety of uniforms, equipment, and weapons of the Alka knights. A special attraction of the exhibition is a life-size display of the Alkar procession and a reconstruction of the Battle of Sinj in 1715, where visitors in a multimedia environment will be able to experience this glorious battle.

Those traveling with kids may be interested in Horse riding at the family-run farm located just 10 minutes driving from Sinj.

For real glocal gastro experience, you should book  Traditional Peka Lunch.   “Peka” is a large metal baking dish with a bell-shaped dome lid, used to cook food in an open fireplace, with hot coals and embers placed on top of the dome for even, slow cooking. Don’t miss the opportunity to try how lamb and veal prepared in this traditional way can be soft and delicious.

We are back in Split in the afternoon around 04:00 PM or depending on your preferences and available time.
